SLJ Week 1 Activty 4

LI: To create a piece of insect art

Inspired by art creations by Raku Inoue we went outside and collected leaves, twigs, and other plant debris to create our own insect images.  The first thing we did was watch a video of an artist who has a lot of experience doing this type of art the bug that I chose to create a cicadas I used twigs and leaves that I found around the school and for the legs I used a theese black beans that grew around the playground.  I found this a little bit hard becuase I had to find things that would go for the design that I was trying to vision. but other than that it was really fun to try a different type of art.

  1. Kia ora Juel,

Thank you for sharing! Your insect art looks awesome. I love that you used beans for the legs; I thought this was very creative. I can imagine it would be hard to find all of the bits for the design you envisioned but I think you did a great job!

What would you name this cicada? The sound of cicadas always makes me think of summer.

    Keep up the good work!

  2. Talofa lava Juel,

The design you made looks amazing! It is a perfect example to show someone. In your design I liked how you have added different types of materials as it makes it more effective. The thing I liked the most is the leaves in the centre of the body and the black beans as the legs. I liked how you have written a well explained blurb by mentioning Raku Inoue and by telling how we watched his video. Next time try to add some interesting facts as it helps the reader to know more about the insect you made. Do you know what a cicadas and its sound is called in maori?

Keep up the great work! I am looking forward for your reply.

  3. Malo e lelei Sakshi,

Thank you very much for commenting on my blog post thank you very much for the positive feed back for what I should have added. No I do not know how to say it in Te reo Maori but I will find it out. I think it is ngengeti but I am unsure if it is. What would you name this insect bug if you had made it?

    1. Malo e lelei Juel,

Thank you for answering my question. I really appreciate it! Yes, you are right. A cicadas in called ngengeti in te reo maori. Good job for getting it right. I made a butterfly and I would name it "farasha" because it is the Arabic word for my insect. What would you name yours and why?

I am looking forward for your reply!

    2. Hello Sakshi,

Thank you very much for replying to my comment I am very grateful. And thank you for the verification. I would name my insect Nigel becuase that is a name I really like. What does "farasha" translate into English and what does it mean?

I'm looking forward to your reply!
