SLJ Week 1 Activity 2

LI: To write a quality blog comment on someone else’s blog that starts a rich learning conversation.

Leaving a quality blog comment on another  student’s blog helps us make connections to new learning by asking open ended questions that encourage a reply and motivate the blogger to ask their own question in return. This is how a comment thread starts and when that happens we make connections with a wider audience who we can learn with and from. I commented on Jessie's blog who goes to Glenn Innes Primary school about the treasure hunt activity she made two videos and explained about all the materials she gathered.

My name is Renee and I’m from the Summer Learning Journey Team. Ka pai for leaving such a positive and considered comment on Jessie’s blog. I particularly like how you asked Jessie a question so that there is an opportunity for Jessie to respond and a comment thread to form. I also appreciated that you included an explanation on the benefits of commenting on other students’ blogs, I thought that was really helpful and demonstrated that you really understood the activity.

Which Summer Learning Journey activities are you most excited about completing this summer?

Remember, when you check out some of the other bloggers’ Summer Learning Journey posts and leave a positive, thoughtful or helpful comment, like you have done for Jessie, you will receive extra points! If you do this, remember to submit a link to your published comment using this form. .

Ngā mihi nui and keep up the excellent work I can’t wait to see your other posts over the summer!

  2. Hi Juel,
I liked reading your blog post today! I liked the way you have introduced yourself first as she might not know who you are. I liked that your comment includes all the key elements including a positive compliment and question which can also lead to a comment thread. What would you do if you find a mistake in the blog post you are reading?
    Keep up the great work!

    1. Hi Sakshi

Thank you very much for commenting on my blog post. Thank you for the compliment I am very great full for it. If I were to find a mistake in the comment I would tell the person in a positive way and tell them what they needed to fix. What would you do if you found a mistake?

    2. Hi Juel,

Thank you for replying to my question. I really appreciate it. I agree, I think telling the mistake to the blogger is very important so that they can understand and not that again. If I would have to fix a mistake, I would also say it in a positive way but will also include the term "next time". Will you be commenting on other blogs? If yes, what is your goal for one day?

I am looking forward for your reply!

  3. Malo E Lelei Juel!

Its great to see that you have been making comments on other peoples blogs to earn extra points for the Summer Learning Journey! It is also great that you explained what a comment thread is and the benefit it has on other people. Jessie must've been really happy you commented on her blog. I think that a comment thread is a really good example to other students showing how we can make connections with our learning.

What does a quality comment look like to you? and what is the main elements needed to create a quality comment?

Keep up your learning throughout the Summer!

    1. Malo e lelei Fau,

Thank you very much for taking you time to commenting on my blog post I really appreciate it. I agree with you I think Jessie must have been really happy.

To me a quality comment consists of a greeting/compliment on the person work, creating a connection/talk about something similar, give them feedback in a positive and thoughtful way telling them what to fix or pointing out the mistakes and lastly asking a question that relates to the topic and from that question a comment thread could start.

What does a quality comment look like to you?

I'm looking forward to your reply!
