Sir Isaac Newton

LI: To learn about Isaac Newton

This week in Reading, LS2 has been working towards Simple Machines. Apart of this, we were required to learn about Isaac Newton. Isaac Newton is a physicist, mathematician, theologian and a Astronomer. We were also required to create a DLO with the following questions: Why is his work important? What did he find out? How does his work connect to simple machines?

I found this interesting because it was really fun to learn about Sir Isaac Newtons research about physics and gravity and how to can benifit scientest nowdays.

Science is Empirical

LI: To paint a still life of sunflowers in the style of Vincent Van Gogh

We learnt about why science is empirical we did this collaboratively in groups of 4 we did this by observations by reading the images then coming up with an idea of what is happening in the image we had to write our own separate ideas but we could not talk we had to then write one idea with no communication. We then had to put our learning on this DLO about why science is empirical. Science is empirical becuase it is based on observations.

Tech reflection

LI: To identify and understand the meaning of science with Mrs Sharma

This week for tech we started a new rotation we started science with Mrs Sharma. The first thing she did was showed us the different science equipment, the equipment she showed us where a Bunsen burner, test tubes, conical flask, funnel, tongs, clamp stand, petri dish, test tube holder, she also explained the purpose of all of these pieces of equipment and told them why scientist use them or when they can use them. she then told us to try and spell these words in our work books   that she handed out to us. we then had to write on the white board words that relate to science then she picked 3 words we then had to explain what they meant.

Science Main ideas

LI: to find the most vital ideas from the information to help us answer the question “What is science?”.

This DLO is identifying the ideas of science which we have learnt from the information we have gained. To find the vital information, we negotiated by collaborating and communicating with our team. We shared our opinions and ideas, we took notes and from them we selected and rejected information to get to our final conclusion.

For us the 3 main vital ideas are:
Science is the discovery of What, Why, and How events happen
The three main branches of science are Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
There are two main categories of science, and they are Basic and Applied Science

Science summary

LI: to summarise the information.

This DLO is highlighting our summary about what we know about science. In our groups, we have been sharing our ideas on posted notes and found the key words which we then wrote a summary about what science is. To then create a summary about the topic. We needed to skim and scan for key vocabulary to create this DLO. We also had to join our ideas together to create a more efficient idea.
We used our new question dice to help us construct some questions we want to find more about. The three questions we made using the dices were:

When did science start?
How will science progress in the future?
Who was the first scientist

experimenting with Ultraviolet light

LI: To find the most effective UV filter

LS2 has been trailing the electronic sensors for the Kiwrious project. We have been working with Suranga, Sonia, Even, Dawn, and Yvone from the AHL at Auckland univeresty. I found that that craft paper was the most effective filter for the UV light was good for letting natural light in and UV light out and was good to keep the Zally safe from the UV Light my DLO will show you how I did this.
