Hauroa Infographic

LI: To create a infographics that explains Hauro as an athlete

Hauro is the Maori belif of mental and physical well being. This infographic explains tha Hauroa means and what the four walls are through the eyes of an olympic athlete. What if all four walls of an athlete were not supported and are not standing or what if all walls of the athlete were standing how would this affect the athlete. If all walls were standing then the olympic athlete knows how to win and lose and is able to learn from loses and also celebrate victories having this information as an athlete will help them mentaly and also physicaly.

I enjoyed this activity becuase it made us think from the athletes perspective and think about how they would feel.

Hauroa and Olympian

Being able to have all four walls of the ware tapa wha standing is important as an athlete becuase you are prepared for challenges that come your way mentaly or physicaly. It is important for athletes to celebrate victories but equally important athletes should also remember unsuccsesful times as you are able to learn lessons that can help improve and inforce your four walls. it is having self beilf that boosts your self esteem and confidence that helps you improve and keeps your motivation going. being able to remain calm in stressful situations can help you from feeling discouraged, emarrased, and feeling like you have let somone down.

ATV Challenege

LI: To use technological practice process to design a toy.

Our focus for this week in inquiry is to create a summary on the following, Identity, Investigate & design. All of these technological practices will help us design our very own rover toy. In our groups we all contributed to summarise the following. Identifying, is finding what the problem is, and how it can be resolved. Investigating

Mood Board Rovers

LI: to create a board of ideas that can help us create our own rover

Our focus for inquiry is Toys and machines. this also connects to the Mars landing, which was helped by these rovers seen above. The mars landing rovers were created to help investigate a planet that has not been searched. This mood board is to help us have an idea of what we are making by looking at different pictures and putting them onto a mood board., we are rubber band powered rovers.

We enjoyed this task because it helped us to have a good understanding of what we are making and how  we can make them successful.

Pulley

LI: To create a diagram about the Pulley system

Today for inquiry we are learning baout simple machines, the first simple machine we are learning about is called a pulley. A pulley has a wheel with a grove in it where the rope or cable goes into and his then attached to the load and is then pulled from the opposite end to lift the heavy load up. We also had to explain what a pulley is within 25 words meaning explaining it breifly what it is.

I really like this activity beucase I find it interesting to learn about simple machines and find it intersting how they work.

Sir Isaac Newton

LI: To learn about Isaac Newton

This week in Reading, LS2 has been working towards Simple Machines. Apart of this, we were required to learn about Isaac Newton. Isaac Newton is a physicist, mathematician, theologian and a Astronomer. We were also required to create a DLO with the following questions: Why is his work important? What did he find out? How does his work connect to simple machines?

I found this interesting because it was really fun to learn about Sir Isaac Newtons research about physics and gravity and how to can benifit scientest nowdays.

Pull and Push Facotrs

LI: To create a DLO that explains Pull and Push Factors

For inquiry we are learning about Push and Pull factors push meaning reasons why people immigrate from there country home to another and pull meaning reasons that attract or draw there attention to a particular place. This DLO is showcasing the meaning of the Pull factor and a Push Factor.

I found  this activity fun becuase it was interesting to learn about the meanings of Pull and Push facotrs.

Tatau

LI: To create a DLO that tells others about tatau

Tattooing has played an important part in many cultures over time. Our challenge was to use our smart searching skills to find out about traditional tattooing in our own culture. This DLO is showcasing the History and the Tradition of the tatau and about why people get them and were it was first discovered and the origin of the word tatau. tatau is the Samoan word for Tattoo and is worn by men and women

I found it quite hard to look for information and photos of the tatau and the tools used as there were not as many articles and photos that were about the tatau.

I enjoyed this activity becuase it was really fun learning about the Samoan Tatau and I found it interesting to learn bout how it came to Samoa.

An interesting fact I found out about the tatau is that the word tatau is from the polynesian language and the word tatau originate from the tapping sound of the tools

Design Technology Challenge

LI: To design and make a holiday decoration that fits the client brief.

For the past few weeks we have been working on creating Christmas decorations for our client with is Mr Johnston that he will put up on the Christmas tree in our school office. We made DLOs that showed what we were creating and the process that we had to go through. We then moved on to choosing a celebrations and then planning all the parts and dressings that we need to sew together. We used 2 different types of sewing which are the running stitch and blanket stitch. We first had to cut out the 2 main pieces of the decorations (10 cm) and then cut out any other details that are going to go on top of the main body of the decoration then stitch it together a running stitch. After that we stitched the 2 main bodies with a blanket stitch but leaving enough room for the stuffing to go through and be filled. We also evaluated our work by listing the positives and improvements. We answered questions that helped us understand more about what we learnt  through the design process.

Inquiry

LI: To decide which political party will get your vote by making an informed choice

To decide which political party I would vote for I read a summary of the policies each party wants to introduce should they win the election and the right to form a government to run NZ. Doing this allowed me to make an informed decision.

Hauora Challenge 2

LI: To understand what happens when one of the walls of Hauora falls.

For this task we learnt about what happens when one of the walls fall over. I worked in a group of 4 we had to figure out how to stand all the walls up. on each piece of paper we wrote one of the walls on the paper. we then wrote down ideas of what happens when the walls fall we wrote what happens to us, what happenes to the people around us, what happenes to our family. All the groups then shared there ideas to the class.

Hauora Challenge 1

LI: To explore the 4 different walls of Hauora

This week for inquiry we explored Hauora the Maori belief that is unique to New Zealand. We have 4 different challenges the first challenge is to sort our all of the situations or actions or beliefs into the right wall. Taha tinana, Taha hinengaro, Taha wairua, and Taha whanau. Some were difficult to sort out becuase they could fit into to boxes or two walls. This task was to help us understand what happenes when one of the walls are standing or fall over.

Hauora Challenge 4

LI: To create an information poster that explains the 4 walls of Hauora.

Hauora is the Maori belief of health that is unique to New Zealand.  Hauora is divided up into 4 walls Taha tinana (Physical health) Taha hinegaro (mental/emotional health) Taha wairua (spiritual beliefs) and Taha whanau (social being). When all 4 walls are standing the Tapa wha is standing with support. Taha tinana is your physical health this wall is about making good choices to keep your body going and healthy. Taha hinengaro is your mental/emotional health. when this wall falls you can become distance to friends and loved ones and you self esteem will be lowered and will have less self confidence.

Taha wairua is your spiritual belifs and values and standards this is also like going to church if you do or praying ect. and last is Taha whanau, Taha Whanau is our social being. This is that wall that lets you have relationships with friends and family and makes you feel you belong and being supportive. These are all the 4 walls and when standing you can feel balanced and strong.

Optical illusions

L.I: To create and draw our own goldfish in the bowl.

This DLO shows what we made and how we made it. This game was really enjoying to play because it looked like  the fish was jumping into the water. We created a dlo that shows how we made it so you can make it a home as well.

Optical illusions

LI: To create a DLO about the optical illusions

This week Mr Johnston came to us and showed us a new optical illusions. there is one example that is in my DLO that he showed us. A famous artist who created optical illusions was MC Escher. who created some famous optical illusions.

Periscopes

LI: To explain how periscopes work

Mr Johnston came and taught us what periscopes are,how they are used and who uses them. We found out that the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection that means if the light hits that mirror at a 45°  degrees it reflects the light at a  45°  degree angle. It was fun to experiment using mirrors to reflect and prisms that bends the light and and makes a rainbow.

Light Facts

LI: To share 5 facts about light that we find interesting.

We worked collaboratively to create a DLO that shows facts about light. One fact that interests me is that light takes 8 minute for light to travel to earth from the suns surface becuase it is interesting to know how long it takes for the fastest thing that we know of takes to travel from the sun and then down to earth.

Explorers & Adventurers

LI: To define what a explorer and an adventurer.

This week for inquiry we had to try and define what the difference is between and explorer and adventurer. We had a list of famous people and we had to choose if they are an explorer or an adventurer. we had a middle column for if we thought that they were both. To me I think that a explorer is someone who has a purpose and know what they are looking for. And an adventurer is someone who whats to find something new something that they don't know what they are looking for on there venture.
