Flow Charts and Radio Chat

  Learning Intentions

To understand how flowcharts relate to coding blocks.

To understand how to get the microbit to talk to another microbit using radio signals.

Here is my flowchart practice document.

The next activity today was coding the microbit to send a radio signal to another microbit. We had to make sure that both microbits were on the same group number so we didn't accidentally get a message from another group.

Coding In Python

L.I : To Learn how to code the Microbot in the Phyton.

Here is an example of the buttons,  the main thing to notice is "def" which is defining what the on_button_pressed will make the microbot do. Again this has a top and bottom so the content has to go insde it.

The first one image shows the Phyton coding for the flashing hearts code that I made. It flashes between a small heart icon and a large heart Icon. The diference between python coding is that block coding uses blocks and python coding uses text that you have to type down.

Rock, Paper, Sicissors Flow chart

LI: To learn how to code the microbit to play rock paper scissors and understand how the flow chart matches the code.

  1. When I shake the microbit it will chose a random number between 1 and 3.
  2. I have to make a variable called 'hand' and set this to the random number.
  3. if this number is one - the microbit will show the symbol for papper.
  4. if this number is two  -the microbit will show the symbol for rock.
  5. if this number is three - the microbit will show the symbol for scissors.

Building an Mbot

LI: To understand how the Mbot is put together so that I can fix it when somethig goes wrong.

This week for tech we leaent how to disasemble and re-asemble the Mbot by taking the Mbot apart and learning about all the parts like the motors, ultra sonic sensers, and also the line reader sensor. I worked in pairs  we worked togetehr to disasemble and build it again. After that we coded to robot to move backward, foreward, turn left, and turn left to make sure that we asembles the Mbot corecctly

Tech Reflection

LI: To create a joint for our creations

For tech today Mr Grundy taught us how to create a joint. Mr Grundy showed us how to make a joint by ruling out the lines and and then cutting it half way in using the saw to cut it through then using a chisel and a mallet to scrap thin pieces of wood that is in the joint to create the joint for the next wood piece to go in. I am making a piano and have to create two joints for my piano. If we ever made the joint to tight then we could sand down the wood with sandpaper until it fits into the joint.

One thing that I learnt today was that we could keep sanding down the wood to make it fit in the wood.
One thing that I liked was cutting the wood becuase i liked to use the saw to cut through the wood.

Tech

LI: To draw designs for what we want to make

For tech we are learning about how to use a housing joint. We drew our designs for what we wanted to make and we had to use the piece of wood that we will use to make what we want. I want to make a piano and with all the blueprints/designs they all had housing joints and if we wanted to come up with  our own design it must include a housing joint.

I really liked this activity becuase we are just one step ahead from making what we wanted to make with Mr Grundy.

Tech - Science

LI: To create a blog post explaining our tech session

This morning we had our last tech session with Mrs Sharma we learnt about Plant - Food makers. we talked about plants, we had to answer questions that she gave us from what we know about plants. We learnt about how plants grow, how they feed them selfs, why they are important to animals, and listed 5 plants that we eat and also why we eat them. We then talked about herbivores, carnivorous, and omnivorous and what they eat and list all the animals that go under the categories. We then had to collect 10 leaves that we found around the school. we then taped them to our work books and then we had to mesure how long it was and also record the texture, color ,thickness, and the paterns. we recorded them in our workbooks.

Science tech

LI: To test and conduct our own experiments with our own knowledge of rocket science.

Today LS2 year 7s  went to tech and did science with Mrs Shamma and Mr Dunn and we learnt about rocket science and we made straw/blow rockets with plastic straws. but before we did this we did a brainstorm of words with Mrs Shamma, some of the words we wrote down  were Gravity, thrust, push, force, action and reaction and fins. We then worked with Mr Dunn and we bade straw rockets the first thing we did was to bend the tip of the larger straw and we made sure that we used a reasonable amount of tape or else it will add to the weight of our rocket, it is good to create a lighter rocket ship so that it can fly further. So we tried blowing our rocket without fins becuase our question was How many fins do we need for our rocket ships.

After that we created a hypothesis or prediction of how many fins that was suitable for our rockets. We tested our rocket with no fins 3 times and recorded our data in our work books, we then taped paper fins that we cut out onto the larger straw and tested the rocket with 2 fins 3 times and recorded our distances and we lastly tested our rockets with only 4 fins and tested 3 times and took record and the after that we had competition with all year 7 students to see who would get the furthest distance and the 3 winners would win a prize.

Tech: Science with Mrs Sharma

LI: To identify the the different types and uses of plastic.

This week for tech the year 7s at Panmure Bridge School  learned about the different types of plastics. We also learned about Plastic, material, wood, paper and metal which helps us understand more about  plastics. We also played an activity that will give us more information on plastic. The activity we played was about looking around the class and trying to look for the different materials that we could see. The most interesting fact I learned was that every year 17 billion rubbish are thrown into the water.

Tech reflection

LI: To identify and understand the meaning of science with Mrs Sharma

This week for tech we started a new rotation we started science with Mrs Sharma. The first thing she did was showed us the different science equipment, the equipment she showed us where a Bunsen burner, test tubes, conical flask, funnel, tongs, clamp stand, petri dish, test tube holder, she also explained the purpose of all of these pieces of equipment and told them why scientist use them or when they can use them. she then told us to try and spell these words in our work books   that she handed out to us. we then had to write on the white board words that relate to science then she picked 3 words we then had to explain what they meant.

Food Technoledgy

LI: To make pizza

Today at food tech we followed recipe to make a beef and BBQ pizza. This was our last week for food tech for this term. We made pizza with Mrs Heka. In our pizza we had grated carrots, sliced mushrooms, meat balls, cheese, salsa. and for our pizza base we  had a tortria roll. first one person had to cut, slice and grate the mushrooms, onions, and the carrots. first we had to spread the salsa around the bread with a rubber scrapper. and then add the mushrooms and carrots. we had to fry the onions first for a while until they where brown. and then add them. we then had to shape the mince into a small ball and then add it to the pizza and then lastly we sprinkled the cheese and then the BBQ sauce swirl on top.  The hardest part of the session is trying to make the meat all the same size. The pizza that me and Heavenly made was delicious!

Food Technology

LI: To make vege noodles
For our tech session we made vege noodles with our re leaver teacher Mrs Tuipulotu. The vegetables that we used are carrot, beans and broccoli. First we one person in our group had to peel and the carrot then chop it up another person washed the beans and then cut them up, the last person poured in 3 cups of water into a large pot and then put in the noodles and stired them to make sure that they didn't burn. in my group of three I had Fau and Heavenly as my partners Fau and Heavenly choped up all the vegetables and I had to make sure that we were cooking in a clean workspace after they cut the vegetables they then needed to fry them they put the onion in first and then the carrot and waited till it was soft and then added in the rest of the veges and then added 1 teaspoon of soy sauce and 1 teaspoon of oyster sauce and then added in the noodles and mixed them up together with the tongs.

Food Technoledgy

LI: To create a chicken salad.

Today the Yr 7 students of Panmure Bridge School had their 3rd tech session of the term. For this tech session we created a chicken salad. Since it is a cold weather we created a warm salad. In our salad we included:

Rice
Red Cabbage
Carrots
Onion
Curry Powder
Sweet Corn + Beans
Chicken Breasts
Oil

Since there was 3 people in our kitchen we all had a task to do. I grated and peeled the carrot, diced the onions and cut the red cabbage. I measured our wet ingredients while heavenly cut the chicken breasts into slices of our choice (not too big). After we prepared our ingredients we added the ingredients together one by one. After adding the ingredients together our food was ready.

Food Technoledgy/Hot Cakes

LI: To follow a recipe to make hot cakes

This week for food technology we made banana hot cakes with a berry sauce and some ice-cream by following Mrs Hekas instruction through out this session.. We worked in pairs with Fau to make the hot cakes.

Ingredients:
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
2 eggs (if needed)
2 tbsp of margarine butter
3/4 of milk
1 banana (mashed)

We used a large bowl it put our flour ans sugar in and in a medium sized bowl we put in our milk and egg, we beat them together using our whisk. We then mashed our banana. Then we mixed our egg and milk with the flour and milk with our mashed banana and mixed until it was a good consistency we added 1 more  egg so that it was more thin. We then used our spatula to get a little bit of butter onto our pan. we then poured all of our batter into a measuring cup, then we poured 3 portion of the batter to create our hot cakes.

For our blueberry sauce we poured 1 cup of blueberries into a small pot with a bit of sugar and 4 tbsp of water. and then waited until all the juice of the blueberries is drained out and then mashed them together. Me and Fau had 6 pancakes each and put some vanilla ice-cream on top with our berry sauce.

Food Technology

LI: To learn knife skills

Mrs Heka  is our teacher for food technology at Tamaki college. Mrs Heka was teaching us knife skills, to help us make our colorful fruit salad. The fruits we used where yellow and green kiwi fruits, grapes and oranges.

Skills / Ingredients
She showed us how to cut the fruits and segment the oranges. She then showed us that we needed to cut both ends of the fruit and then place it down on the flat side so that it dose not move. We then needed to carefully cut the skin off of the fruit. and then diced the fruits for the grapes we had to cut them in half. for the oranges we needed to cut of the white parts of the orange

We then had to layer the fruits with the yogurt into the cup, we used 1 cup of yogurt. we had to do 1 layer of yogurt and then one layer of fruit until all of the ingredients are gone. We worked in groups of 3 My partners were Fau and Hevenly both of them were making the fruit salads and I was washing the dishes.

Tech | robotics | Coding

Today was my first day at tech. We were doing robotics with Mrs Ferguson. She taught us about Algorithms, we made groups and the leader had to give us specific instructions of what to do, we had to do 3 star jumps, turn around and touch the ground. We then  learnt about input, algorithms and output, an example knitting, input ball of wool algorithm knitting and the output was a scarf.

Mrs Ferguson then gave us m-bots, Which we plugged into our chromebooks and we started coding using mblock and we had to make the lights go off and on by using mblock.
