Coordinates Challenege

 LI: to use your knowledge of coordinates to answer the questions and find the locations on the map



For todays learning activity we were tasked to use your knwoledge of coordinates to answer all the questions correctly. We needed to look at the map and then try and answer the questions by naming the correct place that is on the map.

Olympic Maths Challenge #5

LI: To find the most effecient strategy.

 




For olympic maths challenge five our focus was to sort out the mesurements and records into the correct place we could figure out the correct measurements and records by using our smart searching skills to find the correct records. In the table above it shows the correct records and measurements.

I enjoyed this task becuase it required us to use our smart searching sklills to find out the answers to the olympic world records.

LI: To find the most effecient startegy.



The maths question for challenge four was to Create a graph to display this data. Include a comparison to NZ’s medal tally. Be creative with the data you choose to show. The more information you include, the easier it will be to analyse and draw conclusions. Using information from 2 different charts of Medal statistics we found out the current top 10. In my screencastify I have made explains my strategy.

Olympic Maths Challenge 3

 LI: To fidn the most effiecent strategy.



Todays maths challenge we were asked to find how many right angles there were in a badmintin racket. Our maths questions was, An Olympic Badminton Racket has approximately 25 strings in total. When these strings intersect they form squares. This means that there is approximately 250 squares on the racket. Take what you know about right angles to figure out how many right angles there are on an entire badminton racket. To find the answer to this question we would need to find the out how many angles there are in a square whitch is 4. so our new equations woulf have to be 250 x  4 whitch is 1000.

Super Finger Competion

 LI: To recall our time tables quickly


Today for maths we  recalled our multiplication knowledge by playing a game called Super Fingers. This is a game to see how well and how fast we are able to answer multiplication questions.

The instructions of this game is that we need to write a word/phrase 'superfingers' is what is commonly used when playing super fingers, then write it on a white board or piece of paper. to play superfingers we would need two dice, when the dice are rolled we had to multiply them for example: you have rolled 2 and a 6 you would then need to figure out the answer in your head and the first person to call out the answer first wins a point. points are tallied by rubbing out a letter of the phrase or word you have chosen. The first person with and empty whiteboard/no more letters. wins the match.

The process we did it in was similar to a netball game, draw, quarter finals, semi finals, and lastly finals. To run this competition smoothly we created a bracket which showed who will play who. Our bracket were not even so later in the game we added two other players who were our wild cards witch were Vayan and Micah.

In pairs we challenged each other to see who was faster at answering the questions. The winner would go against the winner from another person. Whoever wins goes up against another winner, and it will keep going until there are two people left, which would be the finals.

The two people facing each other in the finals were Afatia and Chris. I enjoyed this game very much becasue I got to learn my time tables faster.

Olympic Maths Chalenge

 LI: To find the most efficent strategy



 This week for maths, our learning was based on the Olympics. Our first challenge was about Michael Phelps. This task was about Nastia Liukin. The question sayed The Olympic sport of gymnastics is judged with a point system. Nastia Liukin, an uneven bar champion scored a disappointing 16.725 in Bejing putting her in second place. Her opponent beat her by 0.001 of a point. The Bronze medal winner's score was a 14.975.What was the Gold medal winners score? By how much did Nastia score over the Bronze medalist? We had to find out how much of a point nastia opponent score was, and we also had to find out how much did Nastia score over the bronze medalist. I found this task intersting becase we learn new way of trying to solve different math equations.

This week for maths, our learning was based on the Olympics. Our first challenge was about Michael Phelps. The question was, on average, every swim stroke Michael Phelps takes gets him 2 meters down the pool. Michael competed in 8 separate events during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, It meant that we had to find out how many meters Michael swam for his  gold medals. In total Michael swam 1500m in all eight events. When it says that every stroke Michael takes he ends up to meters down the pool. If he swims two meters in one storke that means 1500 neededs to be divided by 2. The answer is 750, which means Michael Phelps did 750 storkes to get to the 1,500m range.

Financial Capabilites

LI: To plan a night out that fits within the given budget of $45.00



Today for maths we are learning about Financial Capabilites adn how to make wise choices with money by budgeting this also ties in with our Get Wise learning. Our task for maths today was to plan a night out that fits with in the given budget of $45 for the smith family. We must answer the questions with the answer we got from the strategy that we found most easy and was more efficent for us also known as finding the most efficent strategy for us.

Pie charts

LI: To plan and carry out a statistical investigation

Today for maths I worked in a pair to carry out a statistical investigation to try and figure out what is the Favorited food of LS2. Together we did this by asking Teachers and Students from LS2 4 different questions for them to answer so that me and my partner can analyze the data that we collected. When we went through the data were able to choose only one of the questions that we wrote to create our pie chart we chose to base our pie chart off of what types of foods LS2 like to eat.

Maths

 




This week in maths Afatia, Lukah, Rj, Haylee and I created a DLO about our challenge we did in Maths. Our maths challenges were based on our weight since we have been learning about weight. We solved three separate word problems and we chose one challenge to create a DLO about, the word problem for challenge 3 was How many rhinoceroses, lions, giraffes, or hippopotamuses weigh the same as an elephant? We explained our strategy on how we got the answer. Our problem was to figure out the combination of animals to match the weight of an elephant.

Fractions with Mr Fisi'iahi

 LI: To learn how to group and split in fractions


This week is our last session with Mr Fisi’iahi for this term as it was last week. For this week my group and I worked on fractions and played a game called Play tower of hanoi. We also used Multi Link cubes to help us understand fractions and to help us solve the questions. I really enjoyed playing with my partner solving fraction questions. We also played a game called Dicy numbers which got us into parnters. This game was really fun and competitive as we had to see who was the first one to win.

Statistics

 LI: Identify patterns and relationships between data.

Today  we worked with Mr Fisi’iahi, He taught us about statistics and gathering data. We then gathered all the data and then put all the information into a bar graph or pie chart  we thought of questions in our pairs and then had to analyze the data the data was about pre-teens and teens and different values so that we could get our answer, the question was do kids spend more time reading than teens.

Scale drawing

 LI: to learn how to scale draw with Mrs Kirkpatrick 


This week Mrs Kirkpatrick came into our class and she taught us how to scale draw, this linked into maths becuase we learnt about X axis and Y axis and we used multiplication skills to enlarge our grid and measurements.  the first step to start our scale drawing was to find the horizontal center of our piece of small paper and draw a line down the middle and second step was to find our vertical center then draw a line down the middle, we then had to measure line that are spaced out my 1cm we had to create those line horizontal and vertical to great our grid.

We then had to count the squares from the top of the paper and count the squares on the side of the paper. we then had to multiply the amount of squares we had to get our area to create the larger grid we had to then draw lines spaced out by 2cm in both direction horizontal and vertical once we did that we could start drawing our character.

Maths word challenge

LI: To practise defining maths vocabulary (words)



To help us practise the meaning of maths words. Mrs Anderson taught us the game maths word challenge.
I worked with Cassius and Tanisha on this game.  To play the game 2 players found a word from the maths word game,  then had to give a clue to the person trying to  figure out the math word who was sitting with their back to the other players.

For this task we learnt how to do long division. We had to learn each step of long division.After we learnt about long division we had to make a DLO to show people how to do long division. This week our group practiced finding the answer to written maths questions. To do this we needed to first find the numbers we were working with. We decided the most efficient strategy was to use our times table knowledge. Being able to find how many groups of a number made this strategy efficient.

Blog Post Analysis


LI: To Analyse our blog post data to help us set a blogging goal.

I used the statistical information on my blog to help me set my goals for 2020. Before I can publish a blog post I need to complete the task I worked the average number of posts I made for each month and used this data to set a realistic and achievable blogging goal.

We created a graph about that shows our amount of blog posts of all the years we have been blogging. We wrote a story about our blog posts that explain our story about our blogging journey.

Using Exponents

LI:To understand the exponent of a number says how many times to use the number in a multiplication.


This week we were learning about exponents. Exponents are useful because the expample in our DLO shows that it is easier to write 3x3x3. Exponents tells us how many times we need to multiply a number. This DLO shows how we used our knowledge of exponents to collaboratively share our thinking

This DLO shows you how to find the quickest way to find the answer to the question we will be learning about. Our DLO is also about Tavola's,Tavola's, are mats that can be warped around us when there is a Special  Occasion.
