LI: To learn how the sport AFL works.

This week LS2 had another session of AFL. We were just learning the aspects of AFL, there were; tackling, passing, and kicking. Each action had their own names. The tutors that we had this week were, Andrea and Rebecca. As you may know this week we were just focusing on the main aspects of AFL and how it runs. Next week we would be playing the actual game AFL using the skills we learnt in the sessions.

Tidy Drive

LI: To have a clean tidy drive

Today for cybersmart we learnt about having tidy drives by sorting presentations and documents into folders. When sorting out a drive we must name things correctly and having systems for storing things. For this activity we had to sort out out the files that are in the presentation into the correct folder we then had to sort out the instructions for filing a file properly and then taking a screenshot of our clean tidy drives.

I really enjoyed this activity becuase it was good to learn about how we should name and file things correctly.

Tech Reflection

LI: To create a joint for our creations

For tech today Mr Grundy taught us how to create a joint. Mr Grundy showed us how to make a joint by ruling out the lines and and then cutting it half way in using the saw to cut it through then using a chisel and a mallet to scrap thin pieces of wood that is in the joint to create the joint for the next wood piece to go in. I am making a piano and have to create two joints for my piano. If we ever made the joint to tight then we could sand down the wood with sandpaper until it fits into the joint.

One thing that I learnt today was that we could keep sanding down the wood to make it fit in the wood.
One thing that I liked was cutting the wood becuase i liked to use the saw to cut through the wood.

LI: To write a summary about the American cups

Today LS2 worked collaboratively with LS1 to research and take notes about the American cup. The skills that we were practicing with LS1 were prior knowledge and making notes. The first thing we did was to right down words, sentences or things that we know about the American cup this was to test our prior knowledge about what we know about the yacht racing. First we took words that we thought where important and then choose the 6 most important words from the 20 and then use the 6 most important words that write our summary

Tech

LI: To draw designs for what we want to make

For tech we are learning about how to use a housing joint. We drew our designs for what we wanted to make and we had to use the piece of wood that we will use to make what we want. I want to make a piano and with all the blueprints/designs they all had housing joints and if we wanted to come up with  our own design it must include a housing joint.

I really liked this activity becuase we are just one step ahead from making what we wanted to make with Mr Grundy.

Culture is...

LI: To write a TEEL paragraph about what we think culture is.

For writing I worked collaboratively to write a TEEL paragraph about what we think culture is the first thing we did was watch videos and take notes about why different cultures are unique and have have different traditions and life styles. We then created a describing wheel or a word wheel that have important keywords that could help us wright our paragraph about culture. TEEL paragraphs are an acronym for Topic sentence, Evidence, Elaborate, and Linking sentences witch creates the acronym TEEL. Culture is the traditions, language, foods, and stories. all of these things are what make every culture different and unique.

I found this activity fun to do because it was interesting to learn about different cultures and there different ways of life or life styles and I really liked to learn about how they can be different but also have some things in common.

Pull and Push Facotrs

LI: To create a DLO that explains Pull and Push Factors

For inquiry we are learning about Push and Pull factors push meaning reasons why people immigrate from there country home to another and pull meaning reasons that attract or draw there attention to a particular place. This DLO is showcasing the meaning of the Pull factor and a Push Factor.

I found  this activity fun becuase it was interesting to learn about the meanings of Pull and Push facotrs.

Reciprocal Reading

LI : To write HOT questions.

This week our group did reciprocal reading. The text we read was Puaki. The text was informing us about the importance and the stories behind a Ta-Moko. In the text there were four origins of four people explaining how and why they got their ta-moko. In our reciprocal reading each person of the group was assigned a role, a clarifier, A questionnaire, A predictor, a summariser and the leader. When each page was read each person would do their role (e.g: predictor predicts next page). While doing this we were tasked at creating HOT (Higher Order Thinking) Questions part of the text.

Giant Panda Research

LI: to use our smart searching skills to find information about the giant panda.

Our focus for this challenge was based on writing TEEL paragraphs about giant pandas. After using our smart searching skills, we used the TEEL structure in order to write paragraphs. TEEL is the acronym for: topic sentence, elaborate, evidence and link sentence.

First we researched about giant pandas and found information about them. After this, we made bullet point notes including the main points of our research. These notes helped create sentences with all the main ideas and made it understandable.

After making the notes we started writing our TEEL paragraphs. TEEL paragraphs help us to expand our knowledge/ideas and formulate our thinking into informational pieces of text.

We found this activity very enjoyable because we collaborated together to find out shocking information about pandas. One thing I learnt from this activity was that giant pandas are very close to extinction.

Tatau

LI: To create a DLO that tells others about tatau

Tattooing has played an important part in many cultures over time. Our challenge was to use our smart searching skills to find out about traditional tattooing in our own culture. This DLO is showcasing the History and the Tradition of the tatau and about why people get them and were it was first discovered and the origin of the word tatau. tatau is the Samoan word for Tattoo and is worn by men and women

I found it quite hard to look for information and photos of the tatau and the tools used as there were not as many articles and photos that were about the tatau.

I enjoyed this activity becuase it was really fun learning about the Samoan Tatau and I found it interesting to learn bout how it came to Samoa.

An interesting fact I found out about the tatau is that the word tatau is from the polynesian language and the word tatau originate from the tapping sound of the tools

Virtual Trip

LI: To plan a virtual trip around the world

Our challenge was to create a map using google/my maps and drop pins on the locations visited. The next part of this challenge was to find the capital city of each place and include it in the information in the pin. In the map I created I only Included five different countries/capitals. With are Paris, Korea, London India, and Hawaii.

I enjoyed this activity because I got to look at different countries and go to look at them individual. The country I would like to visit the most out of the five that I picked would have to be Korea Seoul becuase I would like to learn about the culture and learn about it.
