Food Technoledgy

LI: To make saagwala
For Food Technology we made Sagwala, at Tamaki College with our Food Tech teacher Mrs Heka. Sagwala is a curry originating from India. We made a DLO (Digital Learning Object) showing the steps and recipe of how we made the Sagwala. We wrote the recipe, methods, and even showed pictures of each step we were doing. Making this was really fun, and at the end it was worth it because of how amazingly delicious it was.

Periscopes

LI: To explain how periscopes work

Mr Johnston came and taught us what periscopes are,how they are used and who uses them. We found out that the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection that means if the light hits that mirror at a 45°  degrees it reflects the light at a  45°  degree angle. It was fun to experiment using mirrors to reflect and prisms that bends the light and and makes a rainbow.

Light Facts

LI: To share 5 facts about light that we find interesting.

We worked collaboratively to create a DLO that shows facts about light. One fact that interests me is that light takes 8 minute for light to travel to earth from the suns surface becuase it is interesting to know how long it takes for the fastest thing that we know of takes to travel from the sun and then down to earth.

Maths challenge

LI: To find the most efficient strategy to answer the question.
This week our group practiced finding the answer to written maths questions. To do this we needed to first find the numbers we were working with. We decided the most efficient strategy was to use our times table knowledge. Being able to find how many groups of a number made this strategy efficient.

Evaluation | forming an opinion

LI: To read the information in the text, think about what you have read and form an opinion

After reading our text we looked at the protests in Aotearoa over time. We decided as a group that the women's suffrage was the most important protest because it meant women were seen as equal after NZ won the right for women to vote first. This is our opinion after sharing our ideas and reading the information.

Summary

LI: To explain in fewer words what the text is about

Today for reading we read a book about protest that took place in New Zealand. We used our reciprocal reading skills the read the book. We had to write questions we had about the book and words we didn’t understand and summarize and predict what was going on in the book. We then worked in pairs and made a summary about the book we read we had to write 20 important words then choose 6 and then sum it all up into a few sentences.

Food Technoledgy

LI: To create a chicken salad.

Today the Yr 7 students of Panmure Bridge School had their 3rd tech session of the term. For this tech session we created a chicken salad. Since it is a cold weather we created a warm salad. In our salad we included:

Rice
Red Cabbage
Carrots
Onion
Curry Powder
Sweet Corn + Beans
Chicken Breasts
Oil

Since there was 3 people in our kitchen we all had a task to do. I grated and peeled the carrot, diced the onions and cut the red cabbage. I measured our wet ingredients while heavenly cut the chicken breasts into slices of our choice (not too big). After we prepared our ingredients we added the ingredients together one by one. After adding the ingredients together our food was ready.

Blog Post Analysis

LI: To Analyse our blog post data to help us set a blogging goal.

I used the statistical information on my blog to help me set my goals for 2020. Before I can publish a blog post I need to complete the task I worked the average number of posts I made for each month and used this data to set a realistic and achievable blogging goal.

We created a graph about that shows our amount of blog posts of all the years we have been blogging. We wrote a story about our blog posts that explain our story about our blogging journey.

Te reo Challenge Kowhaiwhai Patterns

LI:To design a kowhaiwhai pattern for our PBS Te Reo Blog.

My kowhaiwhai patterns are about life. As you can see we have the maori plants such as the koro. So that we know there is life everywhere we venture. I used the traditional maori colors which are red, white, and black. The first row representing the plants in the dawn. The second row showing the plants in dusk and the last row in the night.

Inference

LI:To infer information using clues in the image and our prior knowledge to explain what might be happening.
The article we read helped us make inferences about NZ history through images that were taken a long time ago. After reading the text we worked collaboratively and used our inferring skills to think about what was happening in the photo and behind the scenes.

6 Photos

LI: To use clues in the text and your own knowledge to infer the story behind the picture.

DLO link

This week we had a new reading task it was to infer images and answer the question under the photo. The photos we inferred were found in a book called 6 photos witch had 6 different photos from New Zealand and were taken around 1980. Some of the questions were about what was the first thing that we noticed or was most obvious to see or why we think that the photo was taken.

What is inference?
inference is when you try to figure out what is going on in a photo or scene without a given description of what they are actually doing. We inferred 6 different photos and we recorded our answers on our DLO

Current events

L.I To find articles that's happening around the world.

I collaborated with Liletina for this task. We both worked amazing and found some really good articles. We used our  knowledge and our reading skills to find more about the articles we are reading about. Some of these articles were really sad and some were really funny. The article that I found the most odd one was that a women got  fined for taking a turtle to work.

Food Technoledgy/Hot Cakes

LI: To follow a recipe to make hot cakes

This week for food technology we made banana hot cakes with a berry sauce and some ice-cream by following Mrs Hekas instruction through out this session.. We worked in pairs with Fau to make the hot cakes.

Ingredients:
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
2 eggs (if needed)
2 tbsp of margarine butter
3/4 of milk
1 banana (mashed)

We used a large bowl it put our flour ans sugar in and in a medium sized bowl we put in our milk and egg, we beat them together using our whisk. We then mashed our banana. Then we mixed our egg and milk with the flour and milk with our mashed banana and mixed until it was a good consistency we added 1 more  egg so that it was more thin. We then used our spatula to get a little bit of butter onto our pan. we then poured all of our batter into a measuring cup, then we poured 3 portion of the batter to create our hot cakes.

For our blueberry sauce we poured 1 cup of blueberries into a small pot with a bit of sugar and 4 tbsp of water. and then waited until all the juice of the blueberries is drained out and then mashed them together. Me and Fau had 6 pancakes each and put some vanilla ice-cream on top with our berry sauce.

City scape of Paris

LI: To write a description about your cites using prepositions.

My landscape is of Paris. The main building in the skyline is the Eiffel Tower. To the left of my skyline stands Sacré-Cœur and on the end of my skyline is a building called Arc de Triomphe. It was built to commemorate Napoleon's victories. As strange as it may seem you can actually live in the Eiffel Tower, as there is an apartment at the top level of the tower!

Did you know that Paris is known as the city of lights because Paris was one of the first large European cities to use gas as lighting on a large scale. When creating my background I blended in cool colors using our chalk pastels. I used the colors green, blue, and purple adding a shade of black to darken the tone.

Using Exponents

LI:To understand the exponent of a number says how many times to use the number in a multiplication.

This week we were learning about exponents. Exponents are useful because the expample in our DLO shows that it is easier to write 3x3x3. Exponents tells us how many times we need to multiply a number. This DLO shows how we used our knowledge of exponents to collaboratively share our thinking
