This week for inquiry we had to try and define what the difference is between and explorer and adventurer. Polynesian Navigators/Cybersmart

LI: To find out what gourds are used for.

This week for inquiry we are learning about Polynesian navigators. And find out what Polynesian navigators use gourds for. Gourds are a type of pumpkin and are fond in the US or mexico, Polynesian navigators used them to store rain water, they hollowed out the the gourd and they washed it, when they went on long voyages they would usually use a gourd to collect rain water and to keep it a cool they keep it in a wooden cage and dragged it around with them when the voyaged. To keep the gourd closed the cut of the top and used a string to keep it closed.

in the present day people use gourds for jewelry, Furniture, dishes, utensils, and decoration. People cut out a piece of the gourd and shape it then the they carve designs into the gourd and they then fill it in with something that is colorful and attach it to a string to create a necklace.

And we used our smart searching skills to find all the information we know now about gourds. we used key words or phrases to help find this information and we also used select or reject we had to choose the most important information to get a better under standing of the learning.

Exploring Provocation

This week we have been exploring both sides of provocation. A provocation is an action or feelings that trigger strong feelings about a topic. Our provocation that we focused on this week was 'Should NZ become a cashless Society'. In partners(or groups), we collaborated together to talk about whether or not we should become a cashless society. We thought that we should not become a cashless Society because imagine giving your card that has all of your money to a little kid. It is better with cash because their is a limit. My partner and I have created a DLO showcase this issue in NZ.

Kiwi Can Reflection

At Kiwi Can we learnt about Leadership. This is really important this year because we are the senior students at Panmure Bridge School. We need to take risks, show confidence and be a role model for our junior students. Being a leader is hard and is something we never stop learning about. Confidence comes with practise and sometimes getting it wrong.

Places named by early explorers

LI: to find places named by early explorers.

We had to collaboratively and find places named by early explorers. We found places named by Captain James cook, Kupe, and Able tasman. places get named by friends or important people so that they are remembered or so that they can get money, or the could be named becuase of there physical appearance. the place could also be named of something that has happened or based of a myth of legend.

Past and present

For the past and present we had to explain about Kupe, Captain James cook, and what it is like today to use boats. and we had to also explain some of the problems  about there different transportation. Kupe sailed to New Zealand in a waka. James cook sailed in a big navy vessel. And modern boat us motors and gas to to move the boat. some problems with using a waka or the endevour is that the wind could stop and it could also stop the boat and it could stop moving. And of the problems with modern day boat are that when the motor for the boat is turned on gas an other chemicals could leak into the ocean and pollute it.
