LI: To compare and contrast
Today in reading we worked collaboratively to complete this Venn diagram. We had to write the differences of Kupe and James cook and in the middle we had to write what they both have in common. some differences are that they both sailed in diferent boats kupe sailed in a waka and James cook sailed in the endevour and something they have I common is that they both found New Zealand by mistake and are well respected leaders.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Mrs Fisi'iahi.

Today in reading we are learning about Kupe and Captain James cook. We had to look at some images of there boats and we had to come up with question and put them onto the question matrix. we had to make questions with what, were, witch, who, why, and how. using cretin words in each column theses question that we wrote had to relate to our learning about Kupe and Captain James cook.

Tech Reflection
Today was our second session of tech and we learnt how to use flashing lights and making sounds with the mbot, We had to use mblock to put the code in the robot. we had to try and make the sound come from the robot and Mrs Fergeson helped us make the happy birthday song. We had to take a video of our progress with the flashing light.

Coloborative explanation
How do you feel knowing that each year, over 1 million sea animals lose their lives from plastic waste? This is caused by the laziness of people who can't be bothered to throw their rubbish in the bin. When you litter, your rubbish leads to landfills, drains, and possibly to the ocean.
Everyday approximately 8 million pieces of trash lead to the ocean. As the waste leads to the ocean it can attract the sea animals by mistaking it for food. The sea creatures can die by being suffocated from the plastic and can also be caught in the plastic. The plastic makes them have digestive problems and can cause them to die.
According to National Geographic, by 2050 there will be 12 billion metric tonnes of plastic landfills. Right now there might be 5.25 trillion macro and microplastic in our ocean right now. Chlorinated plastic can release harmful chemicals into the surrounding soil, which can then leak into groundwater or other surrounding water sources. This can cause a range of potentially harmful effects on the species that drink the water.
LI: to make a collaborative explanation about plastic pollution
In groups of five we created a collaborative explanation. This explanation was about Plastic pollution. What we did to get information was watch a video from love your coast. This video showed the love your coast community picking up rubbish.

Tech | robotics | Coding
Today was my first day at tech. We were doing robotics with Mrs Ferguson. She taught us about Algorithms, we made groups and the leader had to give us specific instructions of what to do, we had to do 3 star jumps, turn around and touch the ground. We then learnt about input, algorithms and output, an example knitting, input ball of wool algorithm knitting and the output was a scarf.
Mrs Ferguson then gave us m-bots, Which we plugged into our chromebooks and we started coding using mblock and we had to make the lights go off and on by using mblock.

Tiriti o Waitangi collaborative summary
LI: To summaries and the learn the meaning of the treaty of waitangi
In this activity we were asked to get into groups. In each group we were asked to create a short summary of the Treaty of Waitangi. We also had read a story about The Treaty of Waitangi and we also had to find words that we found important and add it into that summary. We also had to pick two words from the story that we found mostly important and find and try to draw an image of those words.

Kiwi can
LI: To include and engage others by being sensitive to their feelings
This week we had our first ever session of kiwi can. This term our theme is Positive Relationships, and our topic was Empathy.
Empathy means being understandable and being enthusiastic. Courtesy means being kind and respectful to others. Ways of being empathetic is showing an act of kindness with people. Ways of being Courteous are being respectful and helpful to others.
The activity and energiser was changing places and role play. For the changing places we had gotten into a circle, mrs grace would call out things that we like or have done and we have to switch places in the circle as fast as possible. Our activity was called role play.

Kiwi Sport reflection | Cricket
In Kiwi sport Brian from HPPC coached us for cricket. We were split up into 2 team bowling and batting teams. We had to throw the balls and aim to the wickets by putting our foot in the same directions, and when we hit the wickets we had to run to the keeper position, if the ball hits the wickets we then had to put a cone on top of the wicket, If we had all four cones on the wickets we then had to pull them out if the were hit again.
If you were in the batting team then all batters had to hit both of the balls the runners had to grab the both of the balls as soon as the last ball was hit, then the runners have to get both of the balls to the stands, while the batters run from one cone to another. The skills that we learnt while being coached are Batting, Fielding, Bowling, Scoring, Teamwork, and communication.
Something that I found really interesting while playing cricket was trying to bowl and aim at the target.

Thinking team
Today in maths we worked together in our thinking groups to find the answer to
two maths questions. In the image you would see my group working together.
Our group, The numbertricians group is working out the value in our name.
To do this we used addition strategies and our place value knowledge.
In the second activity we worked as a group to put the population numbers
in order. To do this we used our place value knowledge.
